03 — Enterprise Practice

Organizational & Practice Design

Applying relational and systems-thinking skills to organizational challenges — identifying how anxiety, unclear communication, workflow problems, leadership habits, and compassion fatigue affect both people and performance.

A representative engagement

Case study — dental enterpriseSix-week enterprise acceleration for an umbrella organization with twenty acquired practices — one high performer, seventeen generally stable, and two floundering.

The goal was not a practice-management course. It was a structured enterprise transformation designed to increase profitability, strengthen the active patient base, develop stronger clinicians and practice managers, standardize essential operating systems, stabilize underperformers, replicate the strengths of the top performer, and build a credible two-year value-creation story for future investors or buyers.

A three-track portfolio strategy — replicate the high performer, accelerate the stable seventeen, stabilize the two — kept the work proportional to the reality of each practice rather than treating twenty offices as though they had the same needs.

  • Pre-engagement diagnostic across finance, patients, operations, leadership
  • Practice classification: Model, Growth, Stable, At-Risk, Turnaround
  • Enterprise scorecard with a limited, shared KPI dictionary
  • Constraint identification and 90-day priorities per practice
  • Dentist–manager role clarity and succession mapping
  • Culture, staff stability, and compassion-fatigue work

How the work travels

The same underlying method — clean baseline, no more than three priorities per unit, weekly measurement, internal capability building, and consultant hand-off rather than dependency — applies across sectors. Consultants may guide the transformation, but managers and enterprise leaders must eventually own it. The point is a healthier organization, not a longer engagement.

Beyond the case study

Vernon also designs practical protocols, communication scripts, training tools, audio and video resources, pilot programs, client experiences, and staff-support practices — often for practices where the founder is trying to translate a personal way of working into something a team can carry.
