About Heartforge's founder
Rev. Dr. Vernon Hyndman
Pastoral interventionist, leadership mentor, and founder of Heartforge — the nonprofit ministry he guides.

Vernon provides directive, trauma-informed pastoral intervention and leadership mentoring for people navigating relational conflict, emotional dysregulation, family disruption, vocational transition, spiritual disorientation, and complex seasons of personal change.
His work occupies the space between traditional pastoral care, practical mentoring, relational facilitation, and leadership development. Rather than functioning as a passive observer, Vernon helps people identify the patterns beneath their immediate problems and develop practical tools that can improve their circumstances. The approach is transparent, collaborative, and tactical — compassionate presence combined with direct guidance, creative problem-solving, and clearly defined next steps.
He works with individuals, couples, parents, adolescents and young adults, leaders, first responders, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and people serving in high-pressure environments. He is particularly effective with people who are intelligent, perceptive, highly responsible, or accustomed to functioning well professionally while struggling with conflict, vulnerability, family dynamics, or emotional connection in their personal lives.
At the center of his work is the belief that people are more than their wounds, defenses, failures, or coping strategies. He helps clients separate their essential identity from the behaviors that developed under pressure, take meaningful responsibility without collapsing into shame, and move from reactive survival toward intentional, creative, values-centered living.

Vernon listens for the story beneath the presenting problem, identifies the relational or systemic pattern maintaining it, and develops memorable tools clients can use in real situations. Metaphor, humor, storytelling, film, spiritual reflection, written assignments, communication scripts, experiments, and concrete behavioral practices are used to make complex ideas understandable and actionable.
Rather than overwhelming clients with theory, he often begins with one intervention that can create immediate movement and then builds a broader framework around what is learned. The work is compassionate without becoming passive, direct without becoming coercive, and spiritually grounded without dismissing psychological, medical, legal, or organizational realities.
